Italian meat pie with mozzarella and tomato sauce

Italian meat pie with mozzarella and tomato sauce…
I like to cook, you may have already understood this, but it is not always time to devote myself to challenging preparations, in fact, I have very little time! That’s why often, when it’s time to bring something to the table, I always look for the shortest and least tiring way, that allows me to photograph, shoot and cook, in the shortest time possible.
A few days ago I bought some veal mince, I wanted to make meatballs with sauce, but between one thing and another and the assembly of the whole recording set it was already late. I had to pick my son up from school, my husband was on his way home, my other kids were coming back home from school, and I turned my initial idea into this meat pie that I put right in the oven.
When I got home I had just enough time to take two photos and then everybody at the table. The recipe?
Here it is, I swear I assembled it in 15 minutes, and I wasted more time cutting and soaking bread than doing the rest!

Italian meat pie with mozzarella and tomato sauce: ingredients…

  • 1 poundminced beef meat
  • q.s.milk
  • 2eggs
  • 5.3 ouncestomato sauce
  • q.s.basil
  • 5.3 ouncesmozzarella
  • 4.5 ouncesstale bread
  • 2 ouncesparmesan cheese
  • q.s.salt
  • q.s.olive oil
  • 4.5 ouncescooked ham
  • q.s.breadcrumbs

Tools

  • Baking Tray
  • Oven
  • Greaseproof Paper
  • Bowl

Preparation

  1. Cut the stale bread of a couple of days into small pieces, collect it in a bowl and cover with milk, usually it takes a little more of its weight, but the indication is very variable.

Let the bread absorb the milk and crumble it, if it is too wet squeeze it a little before using it.

  2. Add the grated cheese and eggs, if you like it add a pinch of salt, I didn’t because bread and cheese are already savory.

Knead in the bowl until you get a homogeneous mixture.

Prepare the tomato sauce, I used a type ready to use that does not require cooking, but if your is different, cook it for about fifteen minutes, then adjust salt, oil and basil (if in season, otherwise it’s okay the dried oregano ).

Cover a baking pan with greaseproof paper, put some oil and sprinkle with breadcrumbs.

Divide the mixture into three equal parts and with one make the first layer of your pie.

  3. Sprinkle with tomato sauce, spread the ham and cheese and cover with another layer of mixture.

Repeat with tomato, ham and cheese sauce.

  4. Close with the last layer and bake in a ventilated oven at 355 º F for 30-35 minutes.

Bake, the cake would be good as it is, but if you prefer, you can serve it over a plate, sprinkle with other tomato sauce, distribute over a bit of cheese and put it back 5 minutes in the oven.

  5. The meat pie is ready, take it to the table still warm and it will be a success.
