Manhattan cocktail

Manhattan cocktail is undoubtedly one of the most famous whisky based cocktails existing in the world.

It is said the inventor of this aperitif was a bartender of the Manhattan Club of New York (hence the name), who would have prepared it for the first time in 1874.

The original Manhattan cocktail was a blend of “American whisky, Italian vermouth and angostura”.

During the prohibition period (1920-1933), Canadian whisky was mainly used because it was more easily available.

I rarely use whiskey in my cocktails, but in the right ones it really gives it an extra boost.

This is one of those cocktails whose preparation requires the mixing glass duly chilled with ice instead of the classic shaker.
