Heart cookies

Heart cookies are made using the classic ‘whipped shortbread’ technique, like Italian butter cookies, with the difference that they don’t contain yolks but only egg whites. This cookies are glazed with dark chocolate and decorated with sugars, perfect for Valentine’s day. They are very simple to prepare and with very few ingredients we have in the pantry, sugar, butter, flour and egg whites with a pinch of vanilla.

Steps

Open the vanilla in half and remove the internal seeds with a knife. Whip the butter, sugar and vanilla seeds with a whisk or in a planetary mixer. When the mixture is creamy and well blended, add the egg whites. By hand add the previously sifted flour. Mix well with a wooden ladle. Leave to rest for 10 minutes covered with cling film. Transfer the mixture into the pastry bag with a star nozzle. Form the donut biscuits as in the photo or other shapes. Bake in a preheated oven at 338 ° F (170 ° C) for about 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and leave to cool. Glaze half the biscuit with dark chocolate and decorate with sugar before it dries. Place on a wire rack and allow the chocolate to cool. Store in a tightly closed jar or box.
