Ingredients Homemade Italian Chocolate Kisses

2 ounces milk chocolate (50 g)
1 tablespoon unsalted butter (15 g)
3/4 cup hazelnuts (50 g finely ground)
1/4 cup Nutella® (75 g)
15 hazelnut (whole roasted)
4.8 ounces dark chocolate (140 g)

Steps Homemade Italian Chocolate Kisses

Toast the whole hazelnuts on a biscuit sheet for about 5-8 minutes in a preheated oven at 375° F ( 180° C ) remove them from the biscuit sheet and place them in a bowl to cool. Do not let them cool on the baking tray or they will cook even more.

In a medium-sized bowl over a medium saucepan of water (bain-marie) add the milk chocolate and butter, melt together and stir until smooth.

Allow to cool, then add the nutella and chopped hazelnuts.

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 15 minutes.

Remove the mixture from the fridge and form 13 balls, place them on a baking tray lined with baking paper or on a freezer-safe plate, flatten the top of each chocolate ball slightly and place a whole hazelnut on each one. Place the chocolates in the freezer for 30 minutes.

DIPPING CHOCOLATE

While the chocolates are in the freezer, start preparing the chocolate

Place 3/4 of the chocolate in a bowl over a saucepan of water (make sure the water does not touch the bottom of the bowl, bring the water in the saucepan to the boil. With a spatula, stir the chocolate continuously until it is melted and smooth. Don’t let even a drop of water fall into the chocolate because it will cause the chocolate to seize and then your chocolate will be completely ruined!

Add the remaining chocolate, continue stirring

Remove the chocolates from the freezer and dip them into the cooled chocolate.

place the chocolates on a wire rack and allow the chocolate to harden, it can be placed in the fridge to harden.

They can be served in small boxes, paper bags or small fluted paper cases. Baci Perugina are also famous for the messages written on pieces of paper wrapped around them. You can prepare your own messages, wrap them around the Baci and then wrap them in aluminium foil.
