Ingredients Chocolate trunk cake
For the cake
- 3/4 cupsugar (150 g)
- 5eggs
- 3/4 cupflour (150 g)
For the filling
- 2.5 cupsmilk (600 ml )
- 6yolks (120 g)
- 1/2 cupsugar (100 g)
- 3/4 cupdark chocolate (55 g )
- 3/4 cupcornstarch (50 g )
- 1 sachetvanillin
For the chocolate cream
- 1/2 cupdark chocolate (70 g)
- 1/3 cupsugar (50 g)
- 1/2 cupcooking cream (75 g)
For decorations
- 4dry biscuits
- granulated sugar

Cake preparation
It is possible to prepare it the day before.
Beat the eggs with the sugar for at least 15 minutes at high speed with the whisk until the mixture is firm and well whipped.
Sift the flour twice and add it to the dough a little at a time, mix with a hand whisk from bottom to top.
Bake in a preheated oven at 320 F for 40 minutes. Always do the toothpick test, if it stays dry your cake is ready, let it cool completely before removing it from the mold.
Cover it from cold with plastic wrap if used the next day and put it in the refrigerator.
For the cream
In a saucepan work the egg yolks with the sugar, add the starch little by little, without stopping to mix until the mixture is well blended. Heat the milk where you will add the vanillin now add the egg mixture and continue to mix, for 5 minutes. as soon as the cream thickens put the chocolate in fine pieces and mix until it is completely absorbed.
Pour the cream into a bowl and let it cool covered with kitchen foil so that it does not form a film on the surface.
For the chocolate cream
Put the cream, sugar and chopped chocolate in a saucepan, melt over low heat, stirring, as soon as you reach a glossy cream, turn off and let it cool.
Compose the Chocolate trunk cake
Cut the cake into three discs, wet them with a bath of rosewater and sugar (if you prefer you can add rum)
Place a disc on a serving dish and coat it with cream ( eggs, milk and chocolate ) , place the other discs and repeat the operation.
With a kitchen brush, brush to cover the whole cake with the chocolate cream and with the tips of the fork form lines to simulate the trunk.
Put the cake in the refrigerator
Crumble the dry biscuits and add a few tablespoons of chocolate cream, mix and with your hands form some hedgehogs and a spider, the sugar grains will serve you for the spines, the eyes and the spider legs.
